The Process
From your photo to the final piece.
What actually happens between you uploading a photo and receiving artwork in the mail.
Yes — and we’re a little obsessed with this part. Our studio is built to hold onto the things that make your horse your horse: the head and conformation, the markings, the set of the ears, the look in the eye. We render that into the style you chose, not over it.
We always send back three variations from the same photo so you can pick the one that captured them best. If the first round doesn’t quite catch them, retry costs nothing — and a clearer, well-lit close-up usually solves it. The photo you start with is the single biggest factor in how much the final piece feels like them.
You see the finished portrait before you pay anything. No account, no card on file, no surprise charge — just three rendered variations, watermarked, waiting for your approval.
If none of them feel right, retry with a different style or upload a different photo, free. You only pay when you find one you actually want to keep — and the preview you approve is the artwork we deliver.
No. You can preview watermarked portraits free before you buy. Choose the version you love, then order it as a digital keepsake, archival print, gallery canvas, or framed heirloom.
No account, no card on file, no surprise charge. You only pay when you find a portrait you actually want to keep — and the preview you approve is the artwork we deliver.
Clear, well-lit photographs work best. Try to upload an image where your horse’s head, eyes, and markings are visible. Photographs taken at your horse’s eye level usually create the strongest portraits.
Avoid heavy shadows, motion blur, or photos taken from far away. A close-up where you can clearly see their expression gives our painters the most to work with.
Yes. Many collectors use a favorite older photograph to create a gentle tribute to a horse they miss. We recommend choosing the image that feels most like them — even if it isn’t technically perfect.
Our memorial portraits are rendered with warmth and restraint, in styles meant to honor rather than dramatize. You can preview the artwork before you buy and choose a digital keepsake, print, canvas, or framed heirloom to keep them close.
All of it. Once you’ve picked your favorite portrait, you can order it as a Digital Keepsake, Archival Giclée Print, Gallery Canvas, or Float-Framed Heirloom — all shipped worldwide on museum-grade materials.
We also offer wearable and gift portraits: all-over-print hoodies, tees, and sweatshirts (your portrait edge-to-edge), plus phone cases cut for your specific model, ceramic mugs, fleece blankets, throw pillows, jigsaw puzzles, and totes. One portrait, dozens of ways to live with it.
From upload to a finished, watermarked preview is typically about a minute. We render three variations in parallel from three different AI engines, each with its own painterly bias, so you’re comparing different interpretations rather than three near-identical images.
Physical orders ship from our print partners after you check out — fine-art prints and canvas usually leave the press in 2–3 business days, apparel and accessories in 3–5. Shipping time on top of that depends on where in the world you are.
No. Upload a photo and you can browse styles, generate previews, and see exactly what your portrait looks like — all without signing up. An account becomes useful when you want to keep a permanent gallery of your portraits, re-order from older sessions, or have purchase history on hand. You can sign up at any point, including after checkout.
Every visit, you get 5 free passes — and each pass renders 3 portraits at once, so that’s 15 free previews to explore different styles before you spend anything. Pick the one you love, or commission several if more than one captures your horse.
Want to keep exploring? Add 10 more passes for $10 — and the full $10 is credited toward any portrait you purchase, so it’s really a deposit, not an extra fee. Passes bank to your account, so create a quick (free) account and they’re waiting for you next time.
And whenever you make a purchase while signed in, we add 15 more passes to your account on the house — plenty of room to design gifts for the rest of the family.
A quick note in the spirit of honesty: passes are a generous-but-finite allowance, not unlimited renders. We’d rather price it fairly and keep the quality high than promise endless free generations.
Your Photos
What to upload — and why it matters.
The photo you start with is the single biggest factor in how the portrait turns out. Here’s how to give us a good one.
A close-up of your horse’s head, taken in good light, shot at eye level — that’s the gold standard. The better the photograph, the more faithfully the portrait keeps your horse’s actual features instead of generic ones.
- Close-up: their head fills most of the frame.
- Sharp focus: in particular, the eyes.
- Natural daylight or soft window light beats flash photography.
- JPG or PNG, ideally 1024×1024 or larger.
Phone photos are absolutely fine. Group shots, very dim photos, motion-blurred photos, or extreme angles (a steep down-the-muzzle shot) tend to give the AI fewer features to lock onto.
Yes — many of our styles handle two or three subjects in a single composition. Photographs with more than three horses get harder for the AI to keep distinct, so for a larger string we recommend either a tighter crop on the most photogenic two, or rendering each horse in its own portrait and pairing them as a diptych.
You can. We render the horse on its own or together with its owner — and yourself, if you wish — in the manner of the great equestrian portraits. The same engines that hold a thoroughbred’s markings hold a rider’s face. Most of our styles work beautifully on either.
Your original upload sits in private, encrypted storage on our infrastructure and is only ever used to generate the portraits you asked for. We don’t sell, train on, or share your photos. See our privacy policy for the formal version.
Styles & Output
The art side of things.
Styles, variations, and what you can do with the artwork once it’s yours.
Over two hundred curated styles, organized into packs — Classic Art Styles, Pop Art, Psychedelic Drift, Nouveau Psychedelic Posters, Neo-Constructivist Pop, American Realist, and growing. Some are faithful homages to art movements (Renaissance oils, Art Nouveau, Japanese woodblock); others are deliberately weird in the way only generative work can be.
Different image models have different sensibilities — one tends toward bolder composition and richer color, another toward fine textural detail, another toward dramatic lighting. We run all three on the same photo and the same style so you can choose the interpretation that looks most like the one you had in your head.
If you want a fourth pass with our newest, most refined engine — the one that excels at preserving the smallest details of your horse’s head — that’s available as a Heirloom Painting after you’ve seen your first three.
The Heirloom Painting is an extra rendering with our newest, deepest-fidelity AI engine. It takes about three minutes — versus the minute or so for the free three — and produces a more refined, more faithful portrait. Once you’ve approved one of the free three, you can unlock the Heirloom for $1.
The $1 covers the render itself (you’ll see a watermarked preview) and immediately upgrades every physical product on that session — canvas, fine-art prints, apparel, accessories — to use the Heirloom image. To download the unwatermarked high-resolution digital file as well, the download is a separate $25 unlock.
Not yet through the self-serve flow. The styles in the catalog are tuned to give consistent, beautiful results without prompt-engineering on your part. If you have a specific commission in mind that isn’t covered, write us via the contact page and we’ll see what we can do.
After purchase, yes — for personal use. Print it, hang it, gift it, post it, put it on your Christmas card, give it to your grandma. Commercial resale (selling prints of the same image as your own product) isn’t licensed by default; reach out if you want a commercial license and we’ll sort one.
Products & Shipping
Where the portrait lives next.
Prints, canvas, apparel, accessories, and how they make it to your door.
- Wall art: giclée fine-art prints, Hahnemühle museum-grade prints, gallery-wrapped stretched canvas, float-framed canvas.
- Apparel: all-over-print tees, sweatshirts, and hoodies (your portrait covers the whole garment), or classic front-print tees, sweatshirts, and hoodies.
- Accessories: phone cases cut for specific iPhone and Samsung models, ceramic mugs, fleece blankets, throw pillows, jigsaw puzzles, totes, art socks.
- Digital: a high-resolution download, or the full pack with every variation upscaled to 4K and print-ready.
Wall art is produced by archival print partners using pigment inks on cotton-rag papers and stretched canvas. The Hahnemühle option is the same paper used in museum and gallery editions — 308gsm, smooth surface, neutral white, designed to last over a century without fading.
Apparel is produced by sublimation (for all-over-print) or DTG printing (for front-chest designs), depending on the product. Phone cases use UV-cured glossy print on a tough snap-on shell.
Worldwide. Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on where you’re shipping to and what you’re ordering. Wall art ships from regional print partners (US, UK, EU, AU) rather than crossing oceans, so most orders arrive faster and at lower carbon cost than a single-origin operation.
Domestic deliveries (you’re in the same region as the print partner) typically arrive within 4–7 business days from order. International deliveries 7–14. Larger canvas pieces sometimes sit an extra day in production. You’ll get a tracking link by email the moment your order leaves the press.
Accounts & Privacy
Signing in, signing up, signing out.
Account flows, data handling, and how older work gets attached to your profile.
No. Anything you generated in the same browser before creating an account is automatically linked to your account when you sign up or sign in — provided you’re on the same device. If you started in a different browser or on a different device, write us and we’ll help reunite you with them.
Yes. Both Google and Apple sign-in are supported, alongside email and password. If you choose Apple’s “Hide My Email” option, the relay address still receives all your order updates as normal — Apple forwards them.
Yes. Every portrait you’ve approved sits in your account. From there you can pull it back into the product picker and order it on anything we sell — without re-generating, without losing the variation you originally chose.
Support, Returns & Care
If anything goes sideways.
What to do when something arrives wrong, plus a few of the questions we get most often.
Get in touch via the contact page or reply to your order confirmation email. If a print arrives damaged in shipping, the wrong size, or doesn’t match the preview, we replace it. Apparel sizing exchanges are handled case-by-case; the size charts in product detail are accurate, so it helps to check those before ordering.
Ten percent of every sale goes to equine-welfare charities — rescue, retirement, and sanctuary work for horses. It isn’t marketing language; it’s how we set the company up. We were founded by horse people, and we wanted that to show up in the math, not just the gallery.
The portraits are generated by AI image models, with prompts and stylistic conditioning designed by a small in-house team of artists and engineers. Nothing about that is hidden: we say so up top, in our process, and in our pricing.
What that means for you: faster turnaround and a much wider range of styles than a single commissioned painter could offer at the same price. What it means for us: the work behind the scenes is curating styles, dialing in the prompts that preserve identity, training the team on quality control, and partnering with traditional craftspeople (the print and canvas shops, the framers) who finish the physical product by hand.
